Biodiversity Net Gain

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a way of creating and improving natural habitats. BNG makes sure development has a measurably positive impact ('net gain') on biodiversity, compared to what was there before development.

In England, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is now mandatory under Schedule 7A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as inserted by Schedule 14 of the Environment Act 2021), which means developers must deliver a biodiversity net gain of 10%. Many Local Plans already include a requirement for biodiversity gains separate from the national legislation.

At Orbis we have continued to stay abreast of the BNG landscape with up-to -date training and practical experience of successfully applying the BNG principles across a range of projects. We also have practical experience of the evolving market in BNG credits, carrying out baseline surveys for landowners and recommending the best options to achieve BNG gains for eventual sale.

Don't hesitate to contact us to find out more about BNG and how we can help.

Devon County Council have put together a comprehensive guide to BNG, available here.
